My name is Avery Proffitt.
I’m 16 years old. My passion is horse training/colt starting. I began competing in trainer challenge competitions at age 12. This involves taking an untouched and untrained horse (from an equine rescue or the wild mustang holding facility) and training it. I spend a set amount of time transforming their body and mind while training them under saddle and to willingly perform ground maneuvers. I also compete in local horse shows and 4-H shows. I attend clinics and take horsemanship lessons to further my knowledge and experience.
I’m very dedicated to continuing my training program and entering more competitions. I truly love seeing the transformations I can make with horses. Here is a list of my recent accomplishments:
2021
2022
2023
2024
I was very honored to be awarded the “Top Hand” buckle at Rodeo Bible Camp in 2022. This buckle is presented to someone they feel
represents hard work, integrity and demonstrates their walk in faith in everyday actions.
I believe that faith, integrity, hard work, passion and consistency have all been keys to achieving my goals.
The encouragement & sportsmanship that I have for my fellow competitors has led me to find some of the best friends and connections. I admire people who display strong character and live out their faith. Competing in a national competition like the Extreme Mustang Makeover for the past 3 years has allowed me to meet so many amazing people from all over the country who are doing great things in the horse industry. This has given me many opportunities to learn from wonderful trainers and to interact and positively influence my peers in the youth division.
My goals are to continue learning and improving my communication and partnership with horses. I really enjoy training horses in liberty and plan to learn more in this area of Horsemanship.
